Calling All Yarn-Spinners, E-Bay EnthusiastsAnaheim, Calif. U.S. Team Regionals are scheduled in just three weeks. This is the time to make a resolution that you will be among those contending for a spot on the country's first Americas Cup team that will travel to the Cayman Islands next summer! Players are reminded that World Cup team members will be in Malaysia when the U.S. Team finals take place in September, so the Americas Cup team will consist of completely different players! The dual prospect of a trip to this legendary island and a wide-open field for contestants should make this event a hot item this summer. Don't be left out!
The ADO will host 57 All-Stars at the annual East-West Challenge in Cleveland in August. In addition, nine National Ambassadors will compete for slots in the 501 National Championships. Once again, the ADO will offer a $10,000 bonus for the first perfect 501 game in the National Championships. The number of youth and junior all-star participants will be finalized by mid-month, as will the balance of the World Cup team. Accrual of tournament points for World Cup qualification end today.
In Search of Missing Text
The most recent edition of the Double Eagle is missing text in the board meeting report. Where the article describes the recently voted in "buy-in" option for national finals, a complete description would be (as stated in the April 14 press release): any contestant participating in a regional but not earning advancement through play will be able to "buy in" to the national finals with payment of $880 (the amount it takes to advance one player from a regional to the nationals). The option is restricted only to those who complete regional play but do not win advancement. The decision was made after numerous player requests for this option had been presented over the past few years.Tall Tales, Swap Meet Items in Demand
The best conversations at tournaments often revolve around memorable incidents from previous events or league matches. Those stories usually draw a laugh from everyone and are often wonderfully entertaining. As part of the ADO's anniversary celebration, we are soliciting your best dart tale as a candidate for a special anniversary prize! Tales need to be in writing and be 250 words or less. Submit to Sandi Cain by Sept. 1.Have some darts you'd love to sell? Old programs that might be a collector's dream? Bring your dart items for sale or trade to any one of the anniversary road show tournaments and list your item(s) in the Swap Meet book at the ADO booth. It's a way to bring together buyers, sellers and traders of used, neglected or unwanted dart items and help them all go home with newly found treasures! No new retail items may be included.
Limited Edition Dart Boards Now Available
The special edition dartboards produced for the ADO's 25th anniversary are now available from the ADO office. Pricing is the same as for other portions of the dart board program and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Contact the ADO office for details.Cleveland update
As of July 13, 2001 the Sheraton Cleveland is not sold out for the Extravaganza. Players are urged to contact the hotel directly rather than using the 800 number; then ask for dartersí rates. The longer you wait, the more likely the hotel will actually sell out!-30-
