It is a guarantee that members of this year's World Cup team and next year's Americas Cup team will be different. Because of an unexpected date change for World Cup this year, the event conflicts with the dates for our own U.S. Team National Finals. As a result, World Cup team members will be able to compete in the Regional qualifiers for U.S. Team for points, but will not be able to advance to the National Finals. Instead, should World Cup team members win their regionals, alternates would advance. Any World Cup team member may choose to withdraw from World Cup competition to play in the Americas Cup competition, but that decision must be made by July 15.
The first half of the World Cup team-Stacy Bromberg, Tim Grossman and Dan Lauby-was named at last year's U.S. Team playoffs. The balance of the team will be chosen based on the best 12 tournament points finishes for the period ending June 30.
Last Call!
Calling all prospective all-stars and youth contestants-deadlines are approaching! As the All-Star Regionals approach, players are reminded that all regional contestants this year receive souvenir ADO flights; youth winners earn regional medals. Those players advancing to the East-West All-Star team also will receive discount coupons good at restaurants and attractions like the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. All East-West chalkers will receive limited edition anniversary shirts.
Published dates for youth qualifiers are suggested deadlines only. Because school years vary across the country, National Youth Manager Linda Stockman has announced that youth qualifiers may be held at any time up to early July, as long as results and entry money are turned in no later than July 15.
Ch-ch-changes
At the spring board of directors' meeting, the ADO board voted to allow any contestant participating in a regional but not earning advancement through play to "buy in" to the national finals with payment of the $880 entry fee. The fee may come from player sponsors, a collection or personal payment, but pertains only to those who participate in the regional but do not win advancement.
In addition, due to concerns about time limits at some venues, the board granted Area Managers the right to modify published round robin groupings at regionals prior to the start of play to meet the time requirements of the host.
Anniversary Souvenirs are Here!
Anniversary souvenir programs, pins, shirts and luggage tags will be available at the first "road show" event at Blueberry Hill the last weekend of April. In addition, the first 32 entries in the men's and women's cricket singles will receive anniversary flights. There will be a raffle at the ADO booth for a special new product with all proceeds going to the Memorial Scholarship Fund. And $1 from the sale of each anniversary program will be donated to the Scholarship Fund in recognition of Youth Trustee Della Fleetwood's contributions to the program.
E-Dart?
Any member organization wishing to bid on hosting a national final should contact the resident Area Manager or the ADO office for bid forms. Tournaments hosting nationals must fit into the ADO playoff schedule.
