This is actually my old team, but they are still in existence... When we first started the team, as joke we started giving all of our teammates nicknames, all cartoon characters. It started because we had three girls who always played triples together, so we began to call ourselves the "PowerPuff Girls"... soon we began nicknaming all the guys as well-- Johnny Quest, Freakazoid, Speedracer, Wile E. Coyote, Space Ghost, etc. The team name came later, and just seemed natural, considering our nicknames. We've gone so far as to put them on team t-shirts and end-of-season certificates, and it definately makes the game more fun when you call your teammates dumb names-- plus it shakes up the other team!!!
